Scribbly Gum Eucalyptus signata

Scribbly Gums get their name from the marks on the trunk that are made by the larvae of a moth that lives under the bark.

Eucalyptus signata is one of 4 local species of Scribbly Gum. Budgewoi is its furthest southern location and it is the only coastal Scribbly Gum found from Port Stephens, north to the Queensland border.

Termites readily eat the heart wood and branches break off to provide nesting hollows and shelters for birds and animals.
Its flower buds and gum nuts are smaller than the nearby Eucalyptus haemastoma, which is also known as a Scribbly Gum.
