The Red Bloodwood trees produce large amounts of nectar and this attracts a wide range of both invertebrate and vertebrate fauna.
Fruit (seed) is eaten by cockatoos.
When attacked by boring insects the tree also leaks a kino resin. Sugar glider possums, like those in the photo opposite, actively scar the trunks and branches to access the sap flow for food.
Older trees develop hollows in their branches which provide breeding and roosting places for many species.
