Banksia serrata flowers are a food source for many birds and small mammals.

The saw toothed leaves in the photo above are resprouting after a fire, from epicormic buds on the Banksias trunk .

Bush Rats, such as the Rattus Fuscipes in the photo above. are one of the small mammals that feed on the Banksia’s flowers. They are nocturnal and mainly herbivorous but will eat insects on the forest floor such as slaters and springtails.
