Lemon-scented Tea Tree                           Leptospermum petersonii 

Leptospermum petersonii is a tree that grows to  about 5 metres tall and to 4 metres wide.

It grows naturally on the north coast of NSW and as far north as Gympie in Queensland.

​​

The lemon scent of its crushed leaves has made it popular as a garden plant in the Central Coast.

The name Tea Tree comes from Captain Cook who saw Aboriginal people making Tea from the leaves of another species of Leptospermum.

 

Oil from the crushed leaves was and is used to treat wounds in both Traditional and current medicine.
