The Heath Banksia flowers in autumn, or in winter in cooler areas.

The Bush Rat (Rattus fuscipes) is attracted to the pollen and many bird species have been seen in the area, visiting this plant. They include honeyeaters: the Eastern Spinebill , New Holland Honeyeater , the Red Wattlebird and Little Wattlebird, as well as the Silvereye, which is omnivorous.
Silvereyes raise their chicks in spring and early summer (mainly between September and December), making a tiny nest cup of grass, moss, hair, spiderweb, and thistledown that is suspended from a branch fork in the outer reaches of small trees or shrubs.

In late summer silvereyes gather into flocks and migrate to the North.
Some of the birds we see may have come from Tasmania.

They call constantly while foraging during the day and then fly long distances through the night.
