The name Geebung is the name used by the Dharug people of the western Sydney Region.

The Geebung is adapted to a fire-prone environment. The thick bark chars but does not burn away and this protects the sapwood. The plants resprout from epicormic buds and produce new leaves in a few days after the fire.

They can live for over 60 years and possums and currawongs feed on the fruit, as do the local Swamp Wallabies.

Swamp Wallabies are different from most other Wallabies and Kangaroos in that they prefer to browse on shrubs and bushes, rather than graze on grasses.
