The seeds of Banksia Oblongifolia, like other Banksias are enclosed in follicles attached to a woody stem.  They don’t open and release seeds unless burnt in a fire or are stressed.

 

 The plant can re-grow from a lignotuber after fire, as well as from the seeds.
