The Black Sheoak is an important food tree for the Glossy Black-Cockatoo.

Sheoaks are often killed by wildfires. When this happens, the seed cones are opened by the heat and the winged seeds spiral down to the ground to germinate in the ash bed.

Seeds can also be released when the tree is under other stresses.
