Black Sheoak Allocasuarina littoralis
Many flowering plants are bisexual (hermaphroditic). This means that each flower has both male and female structures. The Sheoak family, however, have separate male and female plants.

The female Black Sheoak produces small red flowers in Winter. The male flowers form on the end of the "needles".
The female flowers are fertilised by pollen blown from nearby male trees. The flowers are then turned into cones, in which the seed is held.
